Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Papaya Burger cranes special?
Many people fold cranes as a hobby or as a mindfulness technique. Papaya Burger cranes started out that way too! The cranes that are used in strings and ornaments are folded with the precision and care that comes from many years of experience. Each crane is held to a high standard before being used in a piece, so you know that you’ll receive consistent and quality craftsmanship whether you order 1 or 1000 cranes.
I also try to use reclaimed or salvaged jewelry in the crane ornaments, rather than buying new pieces. This makes the process sustainable while also giving previously loved pieces a new home. Each ornament is unique and special!
How do I display the ornaments?
Any way you want! Each ornament comes with an open hook at the top, making them versatile design pieces. Use the included suction cup hook to hang your ornament on a window as a suncatcher, or on any smooth flat surface like a mirror or even a picture frame. Origami crane ornaments are a great way to add a pop of color to any space.
Can I hang the cranes outside?
Crane ornaments are designed for indoor use. The paper is left untreated and unsealed since many reclaimed jewelry pieces are one-sided and some ornaments are best displayed flat against a wall, with the wings unopened. Leaving the paper unsealed gives you the most versatility displaying the ornament.
Where do the jewelry pieces come from?
Jewelry is sourced in many different ways, from antique stores, thrift shops, and online jewelry resellers. Some jewelry is vintage and pre-loved, some came broken in craft lots, and others are newer pieces. All jewelry is processed and cleaned before being incorporated into each crane ornament.
How are the cranes packaged?
All ornaments are packaged individually and shipped flat in reusable bags to preserve the folds of the cranes during shipment. Each item comes inside an organza bag, which is then wrapped in extra protection and shipped in a sturdy box.

About the Maker
Welcome to Papaya Burger!
My name's Shiella. I've folded origami cranes since high school, always as a way to keep my hands busy while also creating something beautiful. I would leave cranes wherever I went or gave them away to friends and family. 20 years later, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands and boxes of cranes that started taking over my living room.
Cranes by Papaya Burger was created as a way to share these cranes with even more people.
The origami crane ornaments originally started as Christmas ornaments that I gave as gifts to family and friends, but they've evolved into year-round decor. Over the years, I started sourcing broken and salvaged jewelry and incorporating these little pieces of history into the cranes. Each one is unique from start to finish!
